Most Filipino homes in the country's capital have acquired flat television sets and switched to digital technology, according to surveys.

The surveys conducted by Pulse Asia and Social Weather Stations (SWS) show that more than half of Metro Manila homes are now using digital terrestrial television (DTT) technology via digital television boxes provided by cable providers and broadcast companies.

Results of the surveys in March show that 51 percent of homes polled by Pulse Asia and 56 percent of SWS respondents in Metro Manila owned a DTT box.

The surveys also found that 16 percent (Pulse Asia) and 17 percent (SWS) of households nationwide had a DTT box.

ABS-CBN Corp. reported that it had sold a total of 5 million ABS-CBN TVplus boxes as of May 3.

ABS-CBN Tvplus, which was launched in 2015, enables viewers to enjoy clearer picture and audio quality, affordable pay-per-view services and free exclusive channels without any monthly and installation fee.

The government requires broadcast network to fully shift from analog to DTT by 2023.

GMA Network Inc., the main rival of ABS-CBN, committed to invest P700 million to expand its DTT service by June 2018.

CineMo, the first all-day movie channel to air on TVPlus, is now the third most-watched channel in Metro Manila, with an average audience share of 7 percent in April, according to Kantar Media.

All-day children’s entertainment channel YeY! had an average audience share of 5 percent.
